Before using fluticasone
Tell your doctor before starting to take Fluticasone, if you are allergic to Fluticasone or any other corticosteroids.

PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING
FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether fluticasone will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.

It is not known whether fluticasone passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Side/ Adverse effects
Along with their useful effects, most medicines can cause unwanted side-effects although not everyone experiences them. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side-effects continue or become troublesome.
  •  Headache;
  •  Burning;
  •  Mild and transient itching inside your nose;
  •  Nose/throat dryness;
  •  Nosebleeds;
  • Dryness or irritation in your mouth, nose, or throat;
  •  Rash;
  •  Tightness in the chest; or
  • Wheezing
Warning: Fluticasone Nasal Spray is not recommended for children under 4 years of age

Dosage and administration

Uses
Fluticasone Nasal Spray is indicated for the treatment of the nasal symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic and nonallergic rhinitis.

Usual Adult Dose
100 mcg (2 sprays) in each nostril once a day or 50 mcg (1 spray) in each nostril twice a day
For maintenance therapy: 1 spray in each nostril once daily, as alternative for seasonal allergic rhinitis: 2 sprays once daily.
 
Usual Pediatric Dose (4 Years of Age and Older)
Patients should be started with 50 mcg (one spray) in each nostril once daily. If patients not adequately responding to treatment, give 2 sprays (100 mcg) to each nostril daily; Once adequate control is achieved, the dosage should be decreased to one spray (50 mcg) in each nostril daily.

Proper use of fluticasone
  • Shake the container well before each use.
  • Regular use is required to obtain full therapeutic benefit.
  •  Importance of not using more medication than the amount prescribed, because of potential enhanced absorption and increased severity of side effects.
  •  Avoid spraying this medication in your eyes.
  •  Before use, blowing your nose to clear nasal passages before administration.
  •  Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
  • To use the spray, first remove the safety clip and plastic cap. Close one nostril by pressing it with your finger. Tilt your head slightly forward and, keeping the bottle upright, carefully insert the nasal applicator into the other nostril. Press down firmly on the pump to deliver the prescribed number of sprays. Do not spray directly onto the middle wall of your nose (nasal septum). Breathe in gently through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat in the other nostril. Wipe the applicator tip and replace the plastic cap and safety clip.


Note: It is necessary to prime the pump into the air away from your eyes the first time it is used, or when you have not used it for a week or more.

Storage
  •  Store below 30°C in a tightly closed container. Protect from freezing.
  •  Keep out of the reach of children.
